How to Recycle dreambox Satellite Receivers
If you wish to recycle an old satellite receiver, you're taking a step in the right direction. It is illegal to dump electronics in the trash in 24 states because of the dangers their components pose to soil and groundwater. To keep electronics out of landfills, there are many retailers and recycling collection centers that are willing to accept and then recycle them. In some cases, you can even earn credit toward your next electronics purchase by recycling
Instructions
1
Find an electronics store that accepts and sells used items if your satellite receiver is still in working order. Some places to check are your local Goodwill or Salvation Army, or another non-profit that fixes and sells electronics to people who don't mind buying used. Check the database at Earth 911 (see "Resources" below), where you can enter "electronics" and your zip code in the search box to find non-profits and recycling centers that accept electronics for reuse. Since the ideal way to recycle is first to reuse, make an effort to find someone who is willing to put your receiver to good use.
2
Contact the retailer from whom you bought the receiver to inquire about their electronics take-back program. Because of the growing movement toward banning electronic waste in landfills, nearly every electronics manufacturer and retailer has some sort of program through which it offers to take back old electronics. Check the retailer's website or contact them directly to ask about their take-back program. You can also use the National Center for Electronics Recycling's "How Do I Recycle Electronics?" web page (see "References" below) to find information about the major electronics manufacturers' programs
3
Place your receiver in its original box, if you have it, and take it to the drop-off center of your choice. Ask about gift cards or other incentives for dropping off electronics with a retailer. In some cases, you'll get a gift certificate toward the purchase of a new item when you bring back an old one.
